Les Mills Spring Fever kicked off with a hiss and a roar on Saturday morning. Decked out in their striking aqua-blue tops, Beth, Brad, Meech and Xiomara revved up the excitement with the launch of the new BODYPUMP.
BODYPUMP 73 is challenging (at times, punishing), testing huge cardio endurance in squats, back, lunges and isolated workouts for the chest, triceps, biceps and shoulders. The squat track alone has 72 singles, not to mention those muscle-wrenching bottom halves!
Soon after, Adrian, Belinda, Megan and Xiomara hit the stage with BODYCOMBAT 43. This upbeat, fun and cheerful release is complemented by great moves taken from the modern world of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). A new move called the "shoot" coupled with the "sword kata" in track 6 pushed the class to the limit in stamina and leg power….burn, baby, burn!
The various launches of RPM 46 with Adrian and Beth at Two ifc, Andrés and Beth at Langham Place, Juan and Xiomara at SoHo saw participants reach a calorie-blasting endorphin high. RPM 46 was a flashback to the 1990s with Jamiroquai's "Cosmic Girl" as the opening number.
The momentum continued in the afternoon at Langham Place, where BODYATTACK 68 with Andrés, Brad and Juan was mind-blowing. Participants had to brave the challenge of high-voltage, fat-bashing moves, especially in track 4 to the beat of "Are You Gonna Go My Way". The first cardio peak required blocking high balls on the volleyball court and jumping higher than Brad - who is 185cm tall!
In contrast, BODYBALANCE 48 that followed with Evelyn, Juan and Xiomara was a journey of calm and meditative focus, led by the beautiful orchestral piece from Ben-Hur and followed by the serene remake of Moby's "Study War". This unbeatable trio gave a repeat knock-out performance on Sunday morning at SoHo with BODYBALANCE and BODYPUMP - this latter class was full to the brim with not a spare step-board or weights in sight!
Sunday afternoon saw a different team of instructors back at Langham Place. Participants had waited all weekend in anticipation, restlessness and excitement for the 85-minute MegaCombat class. The fantastic five of Andrés, Kelvin, Kenny, Luis and Meech was electrifying. The combination of BODYCOMBAT 43 and many of the instructors' old favourites from earlier releases left the 54 participants begging for more and not wanting to leave!
But things didn't end there. The ultimate climax came on Monday night at SoHo in the launch of BODYSTEP 79 with Andrés and Brad. A cool combination of Latino and South Pacific vibes in the music that blasted through the studio -- Spanish Flava in track 3, Latino Flava in track 8 and South Pacific Flava (by New Zealand artist Annie Crummer) for the cool-down. |
